MANVILLE — Joseph "Lefty" Gibus died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. He was 85.
Born in Bath, N.Y., he lived in Manville most of his life.
Mr. Gibus was a licensed New Jersey state master plumber and an owner of Gibus Brothers Fuel Oil Company of Manville, retiring in 1992.
He served as a past councilman for the Borough of Manville and was a member of the Manville Board of Education for over 25 years.
He was a decorated World War II Navy Veteran, receiving the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2290 in Manville.
Mr. Gibus was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine Gibus; a daughter, Johanna Brady of Basking Ridge; one brother, John of Florida; three sisters, Sophie Kosensky and Vickie Peltack of Manville, and Mary Jablonski of South River; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 18 at Ketusky Funeral Home, Manville, followed by a Mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough.
