SOUTH RIVER — It may get a little easier to drive on several streets in the borough by next summer.
The borough’s 2000 roadway improvement project will replace roadway and drainage on six streets in the borough.
The project is expected to cost approximately $470,000.
A portion of the project, repairs to Foothills Drive, will be partially funded by the state Department of Transportation Trust Fund Grant.
The borough has been awarded $180,000 of the grant money available for road improvements.
The entire length of Foothills Drive will be replaced.
Also included in the road improvement project are Newell Street and Willett Avenue from Charles to Division streets.
Drainage will be improved on Burton Avenue between Hollander and Louis streets; Ferris Street between Wilcox Avenue and Dailey Street; and William Street between Prospect and Henry streets.
The Borough Council had hoped to have bids awarded by the Dec. 13 meeting, but the resolution to award the contract has been held up, Council President David Sliker said.
According to Sliker, the bids are still being reviewed by Borough Attorney Thomas Roselli.
Once Roselli finalizes his review, a bid can be awarded, Sliker said.
Awards for the project could be presented at the next Borough Council meeting, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8.
