Outgoing councilman says thanks to No. Bruns. residents

As the year draws to a close, I want to thank North Brunswick’s residents. It has been my privilege to serve each of you by being on the Township Council.

I am deeply indebted to each person who took the time to attend a council meeting and to each person who walked to the lectern to speak or ask a question. I thank each person who took the time to talk to me in the hall, on the field, or elsewhere and to each person who phoned or wrote. Meeting each of you, along with the opportunity to help, has been the best part of being on the council.

In the strongest possible terms, I urge every resident to be involved and to stay informed about North Brunswick’s affairs. It’s your life, your town and your money. You have a great opportunity to control what happens. Attend the council meetings. There is nothing like being there in person for learning to read between the lines. Watch the meetings on television and read (albeit with a grain of salt) the local daily and weekly papers. Your participation will continue to lead to the open and rigorous examination of ideas and policies, exposing both weaknesses and strengths. Ask questions. A little skepticism and common sense are healthy and go a long way. An idea is neither good nor bad simply because it is of partisan origin. A bad idea gets no better when repeated over many times in a partisan effort. A good idea or solid argument will withstand challenge and usually, instinctively feel correct. Speak out. Based on personal experience, I can assure you that your voice carries substantial weight and the council and mayor listen carefully to what you say. Once you get involved, you will quickly find reaffirmed, as I did, that the people of North Brunswick are good and decent people.

Happy new year.

Councilman Bill Goldstein
