Children’s Art Therapy Program thanks theater

I want to take this opportunity to thank the Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, for its wonderful generosity in donating tickets to Riverview Medical Center’s Children’s Art Therapy Program. The program helps children who have recently lost a loved one or have a loved one who suffers from a terminal or chronic illness.

The group focuses on expressing grief through art therapy and encourages children to express and understand the range of emotions and fears associated with the death of someone else. Such feelings are felt even more strongly during the holiday season.

I’d also like to express my many thanks and great appreciation to three caring and compassionate nurses: Jill Marascio, R.N., and Corinne DeSevo, R.N. (both from Riverview’s Oncology Unit); and Carolyn Killeen, R.N., of Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, whose efforts in contacting the Count Basie Theatre helped make this event possible.

At a time of year when we celebrate the holidays with family, friends and co-workers, and reflect on the things for which we are most grateful, I want to express my gratitude for having such wonderful nurses on the staff at Meridian Health System and for the kindness and holiday spirit of the Count Basie Theatre.

The time, effort and care taken in arranging this event for our art therapy children is truly an unexpected gift — and one that will be appreciated by all of us throughout the year.
