Caroline J. Carbone, 87, of South Amboy died Dec. 28 at the Carriage House Manor, Morgan. She was predeceased by a sister, Joan C. Lizik, in 1999. She is survived by three sisters, Theresa Carbone and Fanny Smith, both of South Amboy, and Mary Masterson of Morgan; five nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and -nephews. Services were held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport. The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph E. Krieger, 40, of South River, formerly of Sayreville, died Dec. 22 in Woodbridge. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Charlie and Johnny; a daughter, Christina; a stepson, Patrick; his mother, Rose Mary Nagy Krieger; his father, Edward Krieger; two brothers, Edward and Christopher; two sisters, Christine Montemurro and Kimberly Hanstein; and a grandson. Services were held at The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy.

George A. Gilbert, 50, of South Amboy died Dec. 31 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division. He was predeceased by his father, Stephen, in 1990. He is survived by his mother, V. Ida DiMella Gilbert; a brother, Stephen A. of Englishtown; and two sisters, Priscilla A. Gilbert and Victoria A. Moe, both of South Amboy. The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy, was in charge of arrangements.

Suzanne E. Krattinger Fries, 70, of Old Bridge died Dec. 28 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar H., in 1978; a brother, Albert Krattinger; and three sisters, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Adele Krattinger and Marion Schlagg. She is survived by two daughters, Susan E. Fries and Carolynn Fries, both of Old Bridge; a brother, Joseph Krattinger of Garden City, Long Island, N.Y.; and two sisters, Janet Bromfield of Peekskill, N.Y., and Rosalie Krattinger of the Bronx, N.Y. Services were held at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by internment at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. Elizabeth H. Hedge Beck, 69, of Old Bridge died Dec. 30 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Mrs. Beck was predeceased by her husband, Ronald J., in 1988; and her father, Arthur J. Hedge, Sr. She is survived by a son, Ronald J. Beck III of Digmans Ferry, Pa.; three daughters, Deborah Abbott of Newark, Del.; Lisa Homestead of South Bound Brook and Alison McLaughlin of Old Bridge; a brother, Arthur J. Hedge, Jr. of Southport, Conn.; a sister, Mary C. Culver of Old Bridge; and eight grandchildren. A Mass was celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge, followed by interment at Forest Green Park Cemetery, Marlboro. The Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Irene F. Singleton, 93, of Old Bridge died Dec. 25 at home. Mrs. Singleton was predeceased by her husband, Patrick J., in 1982; and a son, John P., in 1986. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Catherine M. Singleton of Old Bridge; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. The Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Alfred S. Ryan, 71, of East Brunswick died Dec. 20 at home. Mr. Ryan was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Conforti Ryan, in 1999. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Silk of North Brunswick; two brothers, Arthur Ryan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Robert Ryan of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Sally Hughes of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Services were held at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick, followed by burial at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. The Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements.

Patrick Louis Massaro, 77, of South River died Dec. 26 at home. He is survived by his wife, Ann Gorka Massaro; six sons, Kenneth and Mark, both of East Brunswick, Richard, Ronald and Glenn, all of South River, and Kevin of South Brunswick; four daughters, Cathryn Budney of Sayreville, Anita Lawnick and Tricia Massaro, both of South River, and Melanie Karanewsky of East Brunswick; two brothers, Anthony of South River and James of Sayreville; two sisters, Rose Miller and Mary Krimley, both of South River; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was celebrated at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, South River, followed by burial at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. The Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Watson, 67, of Monroe Township died Dec. 24 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Robert Maresco of Monroe; two brothers, Vernon of Florida and Donovan of Oregon; a sister, Sonny Watson of Illinois; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick, followed by burial at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Joel Fromowitz, 56, of Old Bridge died Dec. 19 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Cohen Fromowitz; a stepson, Brian Perlman of Old Bridge; his mother, Annie Gartenberg Fromowitz of Queens, N.Y.; a brother, Robert of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a sister, Elinor Katz of East Rockaway, N.Y. Funeral services were held at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by interment at the Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y.

Ethel M. Watkins Edmondson, 83, of Sayreville died Dec. 29 at home. Mrs. Edmondson was predeceased by her husband, Frederick, in 1981. She is survived by a son, Frank of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a daughter, Joan Signorelli of Piscataway; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at the Kurzawa Funeral Home, Sayreville.

EVELYN MOUNT BRITT of East Brunswick died Dec. 28 at home. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Britt, in 1985; and two brothers, Bertram and Kenneth Mount. Surviving are her second husband, Martin Currie; a daughter, Carol Wisniewski of Old Bridge; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, with a Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan. THEODORE J. RACHWAL JR., 44, of Old Bridge died Dec. 25 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. He was a resident of Old Bridge for 22 years. He was predeceased by his father, Theodore J. Rachwal Sr., in 1981. He is survived by his wife, Lynn M. Foote; a daughter, Holly-Anne Rachwal of Old Bridge; his mother and stepfather, Joan and Byron Cleaver of South Amboy; one brother, Joseph Rachwal of South Amboy; one sister, Helen Figueroa of Old Bridge; three stepbrothers, Matthew, Daniel and Robert Cleaver; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, with a Mass at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy.

WILLIAM SWITZER, 80, of Sayreville died Dec. 27 at J.F.K. Medical Center, Edison. Surviving are his wife, Kaja Westergaard; two daughters, Donna Schutsky of Highland Falls, N.Y., and Debbie Cooke of Sayreville; two sons, William of Parlin and Richard of Sayreville; one brother, Robert of Monroe; two sisters, Elsie Albert of Sayreville, and Elaine Korban of Jamesburg; 10 grandchildren; and two grandchildren. Services were arranged by Maliszewski Memorial Funeral Home, Sayreville, with a service at Conklin United Methodist Church. Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

NIKILAJ NICHOLAS MANCYWODA, 83, of Milltown died Dec. 31 at home. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Prozenko; a son, Nicholas of Old Bridge; a daughter, Helen Brosseau of Milltown; and four grandsons. Services were arranged by Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River, followed a service at St. Euphrosynia Belarus Orthodox Church, South River, with interment at St. Euphrosynia Cemetery, South River.

JOHN J. ZIEMBA, 85, of Sayreville died Dec. 25 at home. Born in Perth Amboy, he had resided in South River before moving to Sayreville 30 years ago. He was employed by Johnson & Johnson Personal Products Division in North Brunswick as a machinist for 35 years, retiring in 1980. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II; and a communicant of Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Wisz Ziemba, in 1994; and a stepbrother, John Lis. He is survived by a stepsister, Viola Oberc, Perth Amboy; six nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Services were under the direction of Malizewski Memorial Home, Sayreville, with a Mass at Our Lady of Victories Church. Burial was at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Sayreville.
