The Old Bridge Senior Knights boys’ basketball team finished first in the Mid-Monmouth Basketball League. The players are Justin Conover, Danny Davidson, Pat Dineen, Chris Dulay, Mike Frederico, Justin Linkletter, Timmy Lucas, Kevin Olivieri, Sebastian Pruiti, Brandon Villamagna and Wynton Wilkinson. The team is coached by Pat Dineen, Joe Pruiti and Rick Conover.
Matt Plumser of East Brunswick competed in the Gymnastics Trials for the Maccabi Games on Dec. 10. The trials were held in Springfield, Mass., with competitors from 23 states. Plumser finished in first place in the men’s all-around and will lead the American team against gymnasts from more than 50 countries next summer in Israel. Plumser is a junior at the School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and is the co-captain of the university’s men’s gymnastics team.
The Monroe Township spring baseball league will hold its final registration on Jan. 10 from 7-9 p.m., and on Jan. 13 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Monroe Community Center. Registration fee is $70, and $50 for each additional child. A workbond of $60 per family is required. Please make checks payable to MTBA. The Old Bridge Youth Athletic Association Fighting Knights seventh-grade boys’ basketball team, competing in the Central Jersey Basketball League, defeated St. Mary’s of South River, 36-29, on Dec. 27. The team’s record is 2-0 this season. The team will compete in league games against North Brunswick and Colts Neck on Saturday and Sunday.
Bayonne High School has been chosen as the site for the annual Bayonne Cheer-off, a 2000-01 Cheer Ltd. CANAM qualifier to be hosted by the Bayonne High School cheerleaders. The event is scheduled for Sunday. Cheerleading and dance teams from across the state are invited to compete for a bid to the CANAM 2001 International Cheer and Dance championships in Myrtle Beach,. S.C., in March. Denise Dillon will coordinate the regional event, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Nationally certified judges will score the teams competing in 27 divisions, from pee-wee (grades 1-4) through high school varsity and including all-stars. Individual cheerleaders and partner stunt teams may also choose to compete for a bid to the 2001 International Cheerleader Championship and the 2001 International Partner Stunt Championship, held in conjunction with the CANAM 2001 International Cheer and Dance championships. Teams and/or individuals wishing to compete can call Cheer Ltd. Inc. headquarters at 1-800-477-8868 to register. There is no entry fee for cheerleading and dance teams.
Gymnasts from the Wilton Academy Gymnastics performed very well at the Dec. 17 Snowflake Invitational in Garfield in levels 5 novice, 6 and 7. Old Bridge’s Kerry Dingle led the way in the 5 novice group (ages 11 and up), taking first in the vault (8.8), bars (8.7), beam (7.925), floor (8.95) and all-around (34.375). Dingle’s squad qualified for the state sectionals.
