EDITORIAL: A New Year pledgeto be the best we can be

It was a good year for the South Brunswick Post, and now we want you to help us improve in 2001.

With the end of another year and 2001 already upon us, many people are looking for ways to improve themselves during the upcoming 12 months.
At the South Brunswick Post, it’s not much different. We will be searching for ways to improve and to better serve you, our readers.
It is not a task we can undertake alone. We value the input of our readers and we will continue to work at strengthening the bond between the newspaper and the communities it serves.
During 2000, we at the South Brunswick Post continued its commitment to excellence its efforts to be a community newspaper in the truest sense of the word. The Post, which won the General Excellence Award during the New Jersey Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest, continued working closely with the schools during our continuing school page feature and provided thorough reporting and analysis of key events in town.
We also introduced "Class Act," a semi-regular feature spotlighting outstanding teachers in the district. The projects would not be possible without the input and support of community members. Similar regular features, such as The Viking Post, highlight the talents and insights of local students.
It is our belief that a community newspaper should involve the community. We urge you to join us in making the South Brunswick Post an even stronger voice for local residents.
Feel free to call our office at (732) 329-9214 and suggest ideas for stories or photo opportunities. Suggestions do not necessarily have to be news related. Maybe you have an interesting neighbor with an unusual hobby, or know a child who excels in art or music.
Perhaps there is an issue about which you feel strongly. Letters to the editor are encouraged. They can be faxed to (732) 329-92186, sent by e-mail to [email protected] or mailed to P.O. Box 309, Dayton, NJ 08810. We strongly encourage them be sent by e-mail. The deadline for letters is noon on Mondays.
We would like to be able to have our staff members cover all events. Unfortunately, this is not possible. That doesn’t mean we are uninterested, nor does it mean your information cannot be used.
Organizations, community groups and schools are invited to send announcements, news, notes or photographs of events. Mail can be sent to P.O. 309, Dayton N.J., 08810; e-mail can be sent to [email protected]. Social items — such as wedding and birth announcements, group activities and church news — should be addressed to Social Editor Venecia Thompson and can be sent by mail to P.O. box 309 or via e-mail to [email protected]. Sports information can be sent to Sports Editor Rich Fisher at the above fax number or P.O. Box, or can be e-mailed to [email protected].
For our part, we will remain committed to providing the best possible coverage of news, personalities, social events and sports in South Brunswick.
By working together we can make The South Brunswick Post better in 2001. The bottom line is: If it matters to you, it matters to us.
