ABERDEEN — A township boy struck by a car while walking in the street along Cliffwood Avenue last week was still in critical condition on Monday.

Allen Postell, 12, of Bayview Street, is currently being treated at the pediatric intensive care unit at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

The boy was struck by a vehicle driven by Andrew E. Petti, 72, at 6:17 p.m. Jan. 3.

Petti initially left the scene of the accident but returned a short time later with his son, police said.

"Based on the information we have, he did not realize that he had struck anyone. He thought something had been thrown at his car," Lt. John Powers said Monday.

Powers also said that an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.

Police said that it appears the children were walking in the street due to an unshoveled sidewalk in front of a commercial complex on Cliffwood Avenue.

The township does not currently have an ordinance requiring residential and commercial property owners to remove snow in front of their properties.
