Grateful for residents’ interest in skate park

I would like to thank the residents of Milltown for getting involved in the recent debate about a skate park being built in our community. It’s wonderful to see how many people care about the children and are getting involved. I think we all want the same thing — to keep them safe and off the streets.

When my son, Ricky, wrote to the Sentinel a few months ago, I never expected it to draw as much attention as it did, but I’m thankful. It was great how Councilman Mike Skarzynski jumped right in concerning the idea.

In the beginning the kids were happy jumping the ramps and skating in front of our house, and their parents always knew where to find them. But now they are beginning to explore other areas to skate such as under the footbridge, in parking lots and near abandoned buildings.

Recently, my husband had to buy me a walkie-talkie for my birthday because I need to know where Ricky and his friends are skateboarding; at least he can contact me if someone should get hurt.

The thought of a skate park definitely needs to be considered for the kids before we have any serious accidents.
