The SBPAL Wrestling program has opened its season with both teams coming home from the Annual Fords Bearcat Holiday Tournament with trophies. The A team took first, while the C team placed second. First-place winners for the A team were Sarah Dorsay, Kevin Wadiak, Darren White, Danny White, Cody Shelcusky, Jeff White, David Amrhein and Pedro Ortiz. Second-place winners were Tommy Dorasy, Chris Laurita and Angelo Vitale. Third-place winners were Ryan Dorsay, Ryan Smith, Alex Prodromo, Matthew Vahabi and Anthony Del Piano.

First-place winners for the C team were James Pagano, Michael Muha, Evan Nathanson and Thomas Murphy. Second-place winners were Fraceis White, Jon Foss, Michael MacMurray, Craig Cleffi, Manny Ortiz, Brett Griffin, Brian Korodan and David Flanders. Third-place winners were Joe Muha, Cody Cleffi and Jeremy Colotti. Fourth place winners were Travis Powell and Michael Ungano.

South Brunswick Baseball Association registration forms for the 2001 spring baseball program have been mailed to the association’s 2000 baseball participants. Forms for kindergarten students have been distributed through the schools. Forms also may be picked up at the Recreation Center at Woodlot Park, Municipal Center, South Brunswick Library, or at Grand Slam.

The Kendall Park Skating and Hockey Facility is accepting registrations for the upcoming youth leagues set to begin this week. Players, ages 5-8, play Wednesdays in the learn-to-play division. Classes are available at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., but space is limited. Players, ages 13-17, also play on Wednesday evenings. Saturday mornings are for players 8-14. The facility is also accepting registrations for the gentlemen’s and ladies’ over-30 roller hockey league, which started Dec. 4. All games are played on Monday evenings.

The Central Jersey Riptide, a youth and adult soccer league, is looking for players for a new league, which will play its games on weekends in January and February at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. North Brunswick girls under-14 travel soccer team is looking for a goalie. Anyone who is interested should call (732) 821-6420.

North Brunswick’s 12-year-old All-Star team is looking for a few players who are interested in going to Cooperstown, N.Y., for tournament play this summer. To qualify, you must be 12 years old or under on Aug. 1, 2001 and have experience and a desire to play against some of the best baseball teams in the nation. On Jan.7, the Monroe Voodoo played its first game against the Wolfpack in the 16-and-under division at Goodsports in Aberdeen. The Voodoo’s first goal came from the stick of Jeff Jimenez. The Wolfpack came back with a goal to tie it.

In a fast second period, the Wolfpack took a quick 3-1 lead. But with some fancy passing between Mark Kubera and Brian Mcnutt, they cut the lead with a goal. Then Dave Gsellemeyer scored a great goal on a pass from Ed Hendler and Sean Galianse to tie the game up at the end of the second period. Sean Galianse scored in the final period, but the Wolfpack tied the score to end the game in a 4-4 tie. The Voodoos’ next game is Jan 14 at 6:00 pm at Goodsports.
