The borough government now has a Web site, with 184 people
visiting the site between the time it was put up Feb. 10 and Wednesday.
The site, at www.manvillenj.org, has links to various
officials and recreation sports schedules.
Borough Administrator Gary Garwacke said the site is still
"under construction, but visible."
He said the borough hopes to add online registration for
recreation programs; payments by credit card for permits, licenses and other
fees; meeting agendas; and minutes (notes) from meetings.
The Web setup also includes e-mail access to many borough
officials. Mr. Garwacke, who can be reached at [email protected],
said the e-mail address makes it much easier for him to communicate with
other government officials.
Many people in Manville are now using computers and the
Internet, with the cost of a computer package now around $700, Mr. Garwacke
said.
"It’s become so much more affordable," he said. "If you
have kids in your house, it’s almost a requirement, because people get on
the Internet so easily."
"Slowly but surely I’m getting to it," said police Officer
Jeff Petrone, who is the Web master and designer of the site.
"Eventually people are going to be able to access the
council people, you’re going to have the agendas put on there, and different
things," Officer Petrone said.
Information about garbage pickup and other borough
services also will be listed, he said.
The site follows the Sept. 12 unveiling of the Web site
for Manville Police Department, www.manvillepd.org, which has logged 368
visitors as of Wednesday.
Officer Petrone said he hopes to add information such as a
tour of police headquarters and links to new traffic laws, to the police
site, and links to state and legislative sites on the municipal page.
