Bertha Behrens, 100, died Saturday Feb. 24 at The Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge.
Born in Upsen, Germany, Bertha came to the United States in 1925 and settled in New York City. She lived in Staten Island from 1935 to 2000, when she moved to Old Bridge.
Bertha and her late husband, Herman, owned and operated a grocery store in the West New Brighton section of Staten Island for 15 years until 1948. She was an active member of The Ladies Circle of Trinity Lutheran Church in Staten Island.
Surviving are her daughter, Renate B. Sackhoff of Kendall Park; a son, Herbert T. Behrens of Rockville, Md.; 5 grandchildren, Christa, Inga, Rhonda, Karen and Sheri and 2 great-grandchildren.
