EAST WINDSOR — Construction of a new CVS drugstore at the Twin Rivers Shopping Center is expected to begin this summer, Mayor Janice Mironov and CVS developer Al Stein announced this week.
"The CVS building will be a free-standing building situated on the western end of the shopping center site, near the Shalom Torah Academy," Mayor Mironov said. "The new access from Route 33 will lead directly into the new CVS building. The new entranceway was completed by shopping center owners last summer."
Mayor Mironov said the new store should spur revival of the Twin Rivers Shopping Center. She had no information on when the store might open or how many jobs would be created.
"It’s a terrific shot in the arm and will be a great attraction to filling the other stores there," she said. "This is a popular and solid chain of stores, and it will be a great boost to the center."
The proposed 10,880-square-foot store already has gained preliminary site plan approval from the township.
"In conjunction with the construction of the CVS, the owner or developer of the site will provide other site improvements," Mayor Mironov added.
One improvement will be a new parking lot in what now is a grassy area between the old site of Doyle’s Supermarket and the stores in back.
"That entire area will be cleaned up and transformed into parking," she added. "It will permit parking closer to the stores; it will provide additional parking, and it will improve the appearance of the entire shopping center."
Twin Rivers residents should benefit from the convenience of having a drugstore nearby, Mayor Mironov said.
"If you need to get a birthday card or toothpaste or magazine or hairbrush, it’s going to serve a lot of the daily needs of residents."
