necessary to felt wool: teasing, washing, and carding. They will learn basic
sheep care, types of sheep and fiber, and the uses of wool. Drop spinning, weaving
and felting are part of the activities. Students will make several items which
are theirs to keep. Students bring a bagged lunch, water bottle and should wear
sunscreen. Snack is provided.
Farm camps: Campers of all ages will help with chores:
feeding animals, shelling and grinding corn for animal feed and gathering eggs.
In the garden campers will plant, cultivate and harvest (season permitting) vegetables.
In the kitchen campers will prepare food from the garden, bake bread in a 1904
Glenwood wood/coal burning stove, make butter and ice cream, and various other
farm/seasonal foods. They will learn the source of different foods, and how they
were used seasonally, as well as being preserved for off-season use.
Exploring nature is part of the farm also, and campers will
search for animal tracks and explore various wildlife habitats. A time for crafts,
stories, games, and a hayride are part of the fun. Students bring a bagged lunch,
water bottle and should wear sunscreen. Snack is provided.
