Artists needed for arts evening
The Hopewell Valley Regional School District is inviting area artists to become a part of its "Evening of Fine and Performing Arts" on March 30 from 5:30 9 p.m. at the Timberlane Middle School.
The event, which is being planned by the Hopewell Valley Foundation and the District’s Fine and Performing Arts Department, will display artists’ work in the middle school’s media center.
"We’d like to see a nice mix of professional artists from both our talented faculty and the community-at-large," explained Fine and Performing Arts Supervisor Peter J. Griffin. "We’ll also display student artwork in the school lobby as a second ‘gallery’."
A special exhibit of an environmental sculpture will be unveiled as part of a community project with Trap Rock Industries.
The event is open to the entire community. Parent and Community Artist workshops will take place in the middle school’s art rooms. Ursula Kaplowitz, a community artist, will conduct one of the workshops, while the district still is seeking an artist for a second workshop.
Works must be "hanging ready" and may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on March 28, 29 and 30 in Timberlane’s Art Room 1.
Artists with questions should contact Mr. Griffin at 737-0200, ext. 120, for details.
The event also will feature large ensemble performing groups in the area of music and dance from the community and the schools. The Central High School Faculty Bulldog Blues Band will perform as well as small chamber music ensembles, vocal and instrumental solos and duets. High school and middle school students will perform drama skits and scenes.
In addition, the Pennington Dance Company and the Hopewell Valley Chorus are planning to perform.
Food and refreshments are being coordinated by the Hopewell Valley Foundation in cooperation with the Pennington Quality Market.
