Sunday’s free concert includes popular act
Maggi Hill and the Roadhouse Ensemble
Arkansas performance artists Martin and Scott will join Central New Jersey singer and songwriter Maggi Hill and the Roadhouse Ensemble in a program sponsored by the Hillsborough Cultural and Arts Commission, Sunday.
Martin and Scott compose and record original music and handcraft two of the earth’s most ancient musical instruments, the flute and the didjeridoo. Magical sounds emerge from the blend of the emotional tones of Deborah Martin’s flute and the resonating sounds of Preston Scott’s didjeridoo.
The didjeridoo, which is an ancient Australian aboriginal horn, requires the mastery of difficult breathing mechanisms. Mr. Scott’s techniques have been further developed by a joint recent five-week adventure to "the land down under." Much of the trip was spent in the far north of Australia in the sacred sites of Arnhem Land where they found "didj" players eager to share techniques and tunes.
The trip was a primary catalyst in the composition of 14 songs, which emphasize the flute and the didjeridoo in the recently released "Primal Resonance" recording.
Comments on their music include this reviews which appeared in the New Age Retailer, "Martin and Scott have a knack for crafting breezy, refreshing tunes that are sure to brighten anyone’s day." New Frontier magazine’s review noted "The combination is passionate, heartfelt and moving."
Woodworking is another shared passion and Martin and Scott handcraft many of their instruments. Using traditional methods and working with agave cactus, native bamboo and laminated hardwoods, they fashion one of a kind flutes and didjeridoos frequently featured at fine art shows.
