County preserves land

Eighty acres of land abutting Davidson Mill Park will be left as undeveloped open space.

The township will likely be getting 80 acres of undeveloped open space thanks to the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
The board is expected to finalize a deal for land, which would abut Davidson Mill Park, tonight.
"This will enlarge the park and provide more general open space," said Ralph Albanir, county director of parks and recreation.
The county has already reached an agreement with the owners of the property, called the Davidson Mill Park Extension. The entire property would cost approximately $2 million and would expand the park from its current size of 287 acres.
If approved, the county would pay Abdul Aldemir $1.75 million for his 68 acres and Frank Kuhn $255,000 for his 12.6-acre parcel.
The county agreed that if the land was purchased, Mr. Kuhn, 87, would be allowed to remain in his home on the property for as long as he wished, said Mr. Albanir.
The state Green Acres program will reimburse the county for $750,000, said Mr. Albanir.
