A fantastic opportunity for
teamwork & creativity!
Dear Teachers;
The Packet would like to present you and your students with a fabulous opportunity for teamwork and creativity!
The 1st annual Newspapers in Education Cooking Contest will be held at Princeton University on June 21, 2001!
Ø Students submit their recipes as a team!
Ø The recipes must be co-signed by a minimum of nine students and a maximum of 25.
You can get your class involved as a group! Work on the contest together as a great end of the year activity!
A panel of renowned Central New Jersey chefs and a celebrity chef will select recipe entries. The selected entries will compete as finalists at the NiE Cookoff at Frist Campus Center at Princeton University in Princeton, NJ on June 21st.
Some members of the team will do the cooking and others will go in as clean up.
This is a great way for students to work together and start their summers off with a BANG!
Ø Finalists will be selected for the following age groups; 10-11, 12-13, and 14-18.
Ø Students need to label their entries as appetizers, desserts, or entres. (There will be three final groups selected for each age group.)
Prizes range from appearing on a cable television cooking show to having the winning dish added to the menu of a prestigious restaurant for an evening. This fun filled community event will feature entertainment from school choirs and bands, as well as a
student art display from the participating school districts. The entire event will be televised by RCN cable company.
As an added bonus, the Packet will publish a glossy, color cookbook that includes pictures of the competing dishes, and several of the contest entries. The books will be available for each participating school district to sell as a fundraiser. This book will be a keepsake that many in your community will want to have as well as the families of participating students. If you have any questions about the event, please contact Melissa Edwards at 1-609-924-3244 Ext. 199.
Get your students started now and get those submissions rolling in.
Thank you,
