HIGHTSTOWN The Community Action Service Center and the Hispanic American Medical Association of Central New Jersey will host the second annual Community Health Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Hightstown High School.
Sandra Iturbides, program director for the CASC’s heath initiative program, said the first fair last year attracted 350 people. This year, she said, she hopes as many as 500 people will show.
Services offered will include blood pressure checks, glucose and cholesterol screenings, chiropractor consultations, bone density screenings, pulmonary function tests, prostate and clinical breast exams, and doctor’s consultations.
The event is free and open to all members of the public.
Ms. Iturbides said she hopes people will take advantage of the event to learn how to prevent illness and perhaps adopt a healthier lifestyle.
"I think it’s very important to get the right information out to help people live longer, healthier lives," she said. "I also think that coming together as a community, as diverse as we are, is particularly important."
A bus, she said, will circulate between four locations all day to take people to the fair and back.
The bus will stop in Garden View at B11 Garden View Terrace; in the Orchard Apartments at 103 G One Mile Road; in the East Windsor Princeton Arms on Dorchester Drive; and in the Windsor Castle Apartments at M8 Windsor Castle.
The bus will begin at 9 a.m. and run until after the fair.
The East Windsor Commission on Aging will provide transportation for senior citizens. For more information call Amy Bauman at 371-7192.
Music, food, raffles and prizes will be offered. Better Beginnings will provide child care for parents who want to gather information or use services at the fair.
The CASC runs a program called SOCORRO, a health outreach initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that provides a bilingual community nurse for Hightstown and East Windsor residents.
The center also provides HIV case management services.
The CASC’s mission is to empower low-income, disabled and senior clients to increase their self-sufficiency.
