   BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP

– The Township Committee has
approved an amended budget con
taining a 1-cent fire tax increase
for residents living in Fire District
1 served by the Mission Fire
House.

   The new $363,820 budget
unanimously approved Monday
raises $293,488 through taxes. The
spending plan sets a tax rate of
16.42 cents per $100 of assessed
property value – an increase from
last year’s rate of 15.4 cents.
An owner of a home valued at
the township average of $129,000
will pay $211 a year in fire taxes.
   The original fire budget would
have raised the fire tax rate to
16.71 cents – the first increase in
several years. It was rejected by
voters on Feb. 17 in a 24-28 vote.
   Township officials were able
to reduce the proposed 16.71-cent
tax rate to 16.42 cents by borrow
ing $3,300 from budget surplus.
Officials said taxes had to be in
creased to pay for a new multi-use
fire truck and the hiring of a full-
time employee.
   Officials were happy that the
new budget had passed.
   "The district is committed to
provide the very best possible
service to the residents," said Rob
ert Sexton, attorney for Mission
Fire House.
