Pennington Quality Market (PQM) will hold its eighth annual "Fight Cancer Day" on April 24.
On Tuesday, PQM will join forces with the Mercer County Unit of the American Society to benefit cancer research, public education and patient services. Over the past seven years, PQM has helped raise $70,014.
While money is being raised to fight cancer, friends, neighbors and customers will be celebrating life with a day of fun for the whole family.
When the doors open at 8 a.m., the first 200 customers will receive a free half-gallon carton of Lehigh Valley orange juice. Over 60 celebrity baggers will appear throughout the day to offer their support by donating an hour to the bagging of groceries.
Entertainment will begin at 10 a.m. with music from The Whiz Kids, followed by Magic by Westcraft at 11 a.m. Beginning at 2:30 p.m., children will be entertained by Pickles the Clown and Buster the Clown with balloons and face-painting.
The Mummertime Musicians will perform all afternoon. Two live radio broadcasts are scheduled. Chris Collins of WPST will broadcast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and WNJO will play oldies from 2 to 4 p.m.
Highlighting the entertainment will be an appearance by the Phillie Phanatic from 4 to 5 p.m. and the Philadelphia Eagles Swoop from 5 to 6 p.m.
PQM and the American Cancer Society also have scheduled a variety of preventive health screenings as well as opportunities to ask questions of health experts. Back to Sports Medical Therapy, a unit of the Medical Center at Princeton, located in the Pennington Athletic Club, will provide free balance screening from noon to 2 p.m. Capital Health Systems will offer free cholesterol screenings from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and free body fat analyses from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
PQM associate, Linda Bregenzer, a registered EMT with the Pennington Road Rescue Squad, will take free blood pressure readings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a representative from the Metro Employee Assistance Service will offer tips to help people interested in learning how to quit smoking from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Customers can have a free five-minute neck massage from certified massage therapist, Andrew Curaney from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also, meet with Dr. Glen Gabai of Pennington Family Chiropractic from 12 to 2 p.m.
Hopewell Township Health Department will give free cholesterol tests from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and free blood pressure tests from 1 to 4 p.m. In addition, Princeton Otolaryngology will give free hearing tests from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be plenty to eat with free samples, including: dishes prepared by the chefs of PQM’s Catered Cuisine and a Boars Head hot dog and a Coke for $1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with all proceeds going to fight cancer.
There will be 16 one-day specials offering more than 40 prizes including a $500 gift certificate to PQM, a 27-inch color television, a Sharp DVD player, an adult mountain bike, a stereo system and more.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at PQM beginning April 20.
