A Korean War theme for Princeton’s observance.
The annual Princeton Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, bringing patriotic music, veterans and kids on decorated bikes to downtown Princeton.
Again this year, the parade will highlight a thank-you theme to veterans of the Korean War in commemoration of the war’s 50th anniversary.
The parade, organized by the Spirit of Princeton Committee, will assemble on Princeton Avenue at 9:15 a.m. and step off sharply at 10 a.m.
All marchers and motorized vehicles will proceed west on Nassau Street to Palmer Square. Since Monument Drive at Borough Hall is under repair, the parade will turn left into the Princeton University campus and assemble on Cannon Green behind Nassau Hall for the traditional ceremony honoring the country’s fallen heroes from all wars.
Two decorated Marine Corps veterans will serve as parade grand marshals, William Kremper of Hamilton Township and Albert Hujdich of Bordentown.
Mr. Kremper fought in the South Pacific in World War II, taking part in the invasion of Bougainville and also serving on Guadalcanal. Today, Mr. Kremper is the lone surviving member of his 110-man platoon that also fought in the Solomon Islands.
Mr. Hujdich was a staff sergeant during the Korean War and fought at the infamous Chosin Perimeter. Today, he serves as commander of the veterans group "Chosin Few of New Jersey."
The keynote address of the ceremony will be delivered by Col. Maria Falca Morgan, a member of the Air National Guard.
Rev. Samuel Yun, pastor of the Princeton Korean-American Presbyterian Church; John Kim, president of the Korean America Association of Greater Southern New Jersey; and (Ret.) Col. Myong Choh Lee will lead a large delegation of Korean-Americans that will include musicians, dancers and members of various church and social groups.
