Contest winners build bridges in poster contest

Smiling winners and pleased family members filled the meeting room for award presentations at Monday night’s Township Council meeting.

   MONROE — Smiling winners and pleased family members filled the meeting room for award presentations at Monday night’s Township Council meeting.
   Deborah Wolfe, head of the township’s Human Relations Commission, presented awards to 41 winners of the commission’s annual poster and essay contest, while Mayor Richard Pucci had an award for high school golfer Stephen Allen.
   Stephen, a Monroe High senior, received a citation and a jacket to celebrate his winning of the Greater Middlesex Conference tournament, shooting a 70 on the Tamarack Golf Course.
   Dr. Wolfe had awards for 15 essay and 26 poster winners in the Human Relations Commission’s contest, which had as a theme "Building Bridges to Understanding Others."
   Speaking of the spirit of the contest and the work of the commission, Dr. Wolfe said, "All of us win when we work together."
   The winners by schools were:
   Woodland School — Shaunna Sullivan, Danielle Dougherty, Rachel Friedrich, Kathryn Merrick and Derek Witt;
   Applegarth School — Cori Villegas, Melissa Kuhn, Justin Denehy, Katie Dougherty and Laura Lepping;
   Brookside School — Allie Stillwell, Victoria Cooper, Samantha Jones, Nikko Theinert, Jennifer Prignano, Bianca Brown, Danny Ronan, Ryan Brown, Marie Nemeth and Vinnie Small.
   Barclay Brook — Andrew Minnich, George Polihros, Ashley Lynn Monticello, Kyle Suarez and Brittany Wallace.
   Mill Lake — Cassidy Sullivan, Samantha Widmer, Crystak Stark, Christian Arcati, Caitlin Quinn, Alexis Hanna, Matthew Rusnock, Joey Dileo, Jessica Intromasso, Deena Pochopin, Lyndsey Ann Reho, Noelle Calvello, Johanna Hinds, Matthew Rodriguez, Rachel Roth and Eric Palisay.
