MILLSTONE Contrary to some rumors, the township’s Recreation Commission budget has not been cut.
At the June 6 Township Committee meeting, Mayor Evan Maltz said he wanted to dispel the notion the commission’s $35,000 operating budget had been slashed in half.
"We approved the commission’s budget and it hasn’t been cut," he said at the meeting.
Mayor Maltz said the rumor was he wanted to cut the budget in order to hold a father-daughter dance for residents who have elementary-school-age daughters.
"I never heard of this and I don’t know how it started," Mayor Maltz said.
Mayor Maltz said the commission’s budget is used to run its programs. Any kind of capital improvement project, such as repaving basketball courts, would have to be approved by the Township Committee, he said.
Mayor Maltz said the commission would have to go out to bid on the project first.
