Woman dies after car crash

A 25-year-old woman was killed a 7-year-old girl was seriously injured after being thrown from their vehicle in a two-car accident on Spotswood Englishtown Road on Sunday evening.

   MONROE — A 25-year-old woman was killed a 7-year-old girl was seriously injured after being thrown from their vehicle in a two-car accident on Spotswood Englishtown Road on Sunday evening.
   Rehi Kahn of Teaneck was ejected from a 1994 Nissan Quest driven by her uncle, Jakulla J. Kahn, 49, also of Teaneck — when the vehicle overturned.
   The accident occurred at 6:28 p.m. Ms. Kahn died at the University Hospital (University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey) in Newark five hours after the accident.
   Ms. Kahn was one of seven occupants of the Nissan. The other six were treated at central New Jersey hospitals.
   The 7-year-old, Ms. Kahn’s daughter, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where she is in critical condition.
   According to a report by Monroe police Sgt. Kenneth Huard, Mr. Kahn’s minivan was traveling west on Mounts Mills Road when it collided with a 1992 Infinity G20 driven north on Spotswood Englishtown Road, also Route 613, by Jeffrey W. Gerstel, 32, of Monroe.
   Mounts Mills Road has a stop sign at its intersection with Spotswood Englishtown Road, Sgt. Huard said.
   Mr. Gerstel was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he was treated for a broken collar bone and a knee injury.
   Jakulla Kahn, the driver of the minivan, and his wife, Shaheen, 45, were admitted to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Rehi Kahn’s 3-year-old daughter, was taken to the University of Medicine and Dentistry Hospital in Newark where she is in stable condition.
   A 16-year-old girl and a boy, 17, the niece and nephew of the driver were treated at Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Old Bridge Division and released.
   No charges had been filed as The Cranbury Press’ late-afternoon deadline.
