LETTERS TO THE EDITOR 06/21

From the June 21 edition of the Register-News

Volunteers, sponsors

gratefully thanked

To the editor:
For the 63rd year, our annual Field Day Celebration was successful. Young and old alike came out to join in the festivities.
I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone that volunteered their time and service to make the day a great one. Your efforts made my job much easier.
Another important group that allows us to continue with the Field Day tradition are the many sponsors that provided necessary funds to enable the event to be such a success.
A special thank you to the Mansfield Township Committee for their cooperation and contributions to this great event.
Thank you all for helping to keep our past present with the annual Field Day celebration.

Best wishes

to seat-seeker

To the editor:

The Mansfield Township Republican County Committee offers best wishes to Patrick J. DeLorenzo who is seeking a seat on the Township Committee and will be on the June 26 ballot in Mansfield.
Pat is already taking some criticisms from his opponents because he is a rather new resident in our township.
This is unfortunate and we should remember that we were all new at one time, weren’t we?
Some of our best and hardest working volunteers were/are "newbies," remember?
We urge you to call him at (609) 291-5579. He welcomes your calls.
We wish to remind you that Patrick DeLorenzo was one of the moving volunteers on the Community Task Force. Our township wanted something from him and he readily volunteered.
He has made it his business to know Mansfield and its challenges. He deserves our support.
   Good Luck Pat!

Support is

greatly appreciated

To the editor:

Residents and neighbors of Bordentown, I want to thank you for the support you are showing me as I train for Avon’s Colorado 3-day, 60-mile Walk for Breast Cancer.
I see many of you as I walk through town, into Chesterfield and Crosswicks, through Bossart, and back into town.
Give a wave or a toot on the car horn, stop me for a pledge from, refill my water bottle, give me your Colorado trip wisdom—you are a part of my training.
For more than 2,000 walkers, our journey begins in Fort Collins (5,003 feet above sea level), against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and alongside the banks of the Cache La Poudre River.
The second half of the first day takes us through Boyd Lake State Park and into Loveland (4,966 feet above sea level) near Rocky Mountain National Park.
The second day is the walk’s longest (more than 20 miles) and most physically challenging with rolling plains and terrain changes. The area overlooks the St. Vrain River valley.
The walk saves the best for last because of our proximity to the Rocky Mountains — the Flatirons off to the Southwest — will provide the backdrop for closing ceremonies as we walk onto the campus of the University of Colorado at Boulder on the third day and the end of our journey.
From 1993 to the end of 2000, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade raised nearly $110 million net in the United States for access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer.
Through collective fundraising efforts, more than 500 community-based programs have been funded to provide breast cancer screening and follow-up care.
I’d like to thank the area businesses who have given so generously and openly to this walk.
Thank you Evans Audiology & Hearing Aid Center; Conti’s Restaurants; Bordentown Self-Storage; Dr. Addis; Trenton Joes’; Dr. Weinberger; Mercerville Lions Club; Trinity United Methodist Church; Peppler Funeral Home; Caola and Company; Little Friends Nursery; Union Baptist Church; Farmers & Mechanics Bank; Computer Associates International; Chem-Dry Express, and Powers Electric Company.
I also want to thank Hometown Office Supplies for helping me with my printing needs.
There are still a few weeks left for me to knock on doors or send pledge forms through the mail.
The walk officials would like to receive all donations by July 8. If you feel moved in any way to help decrease the number of women who will be breast cancer victims — possibly your mother, sister, daughter or granddaughter — please do give me a call at 298-6139 and leave me a message. I will be glad to mail you a form.

Paraplegic needs

your help

To the editor:

I am writing to you because I could really use your assistance. I feel you are my last resort and I am desperate.
Let me introduce myself to you. Then I’ll give you a little background and finish by telling you why I’ve written and how you can help.
My name is Dale Robinson. A few years ago, I was involved in an accident that left me a paraplegic. A drunk driver hit our car head-on. The accident killed my husband and two children instantly. I spent over a year in the hospital recovering.
It was while I was recuperating that I renewed my interest in stamp collecting. I’ve found this hobby to be therapeutic. You see, I am home alone for hours, sometimes days. So this hobby really fills a huge void in my life. I know I receive so much pleasure and satisfaction from this hobby. There isn’t anything I’d rather do on a nice sunny day.
My biggest problem is acquiring stamps for my collection. Most of my income goes for medication or medical bills, so I rarely have the opportunity to make a stamp purchase. I’ve been in a real dry spell too. I haven’t added many stamps to my collection in months.
I fear I may end up quitting this hobby if my situation doesn’t improve soon. So I’ve written to you to see if you’ll print part of my letter.
I am looking for someone to meet who may receive a lot of mail. Perhaps someone works in an office or business who receives quite a bit of mail. Someone may want to make a church project out of collecting stamps. Or, I could hit the jackpot and find a reader who has a stamp collection tucked away that isn’t wanted anymore.
I know there are a lot of wonderful people in this world who would be willing to help me if they knew of my plight. You are in the perfect position to put us together.
I would really appreciate many consideration you might give me. God bless.

Police, firefighters

saved office

To the editor:

I would like to take the opportunity on behalf of myself and my patients to thank the Bordentown City Police and the fire personnel who responded to the fire at my office on Tuesday, June 12.
Your quick response saved the office and my records from being damaged.
