Veteran officer retires
from Manalapan force
Capt. John Alliano
MANALAPAN — One of the Manal-apan Police Department’s longest-serving officers has retired.
Capt. John F. Alliano, 47, a veteran of 27 years with the department, retired on June 29. Alliano resides in Howell with his wife, Sara, and their daughters, AnnMarie, 20, and Ashley, 14.
Police Chief John G. McCormack and several of Alliano’s fellow officers praised his years of service to the department and Manalapan residents.
"Over the past 27 years I was honored to have the opportunity to work with Capt. Alliano," McCormack said. "John was the consummate professional who always worked beyond the normal call of duty. He was totally committed and dedicated to the Manalapan Police Department, to the township, and to each and every resident."
Capt. Michael J. Rumola said, "I have had the pleasure of working with Capt. Alliano for the past 26 years. He has always been a hard-working police officer who took great pride in his profession."
Rumola said Alliano’s dedication to duty over the course of his employment made a significant difference in the service he provided to Manalapan’s residents.
"I wish him and his family health and success on his retirement," Rumola said.
Capt. Stuart Brown added, "For the 21 years that I have worked with John Alliano, I have never known another person who could surpass his enthusiasm for life. It is unstoppable. His commitment to the police department, the township and its residents are second only to his dedication to his family."
Alliano began his career with the Manalapan Police Department in August 1974 when he was hired as a dispatcher.
In September 1975, Alliano became a probationary patrolman and was assigned to the patrol division. He remained in that assignment until 1985.
Alliano then served as an assistant administrative officer for seven years. In April 1992, Alliano climbed the next rung of the ladder and became a sergeant. At that time his assignment was changed, and he became a patrol supervisor for three years.
From 1995 to 2000, Alliano served as an administrative officer. During that time, in November 1998, he was promoted to lieutenant.
Alliano was promoted to the rank of captain in April 2000 and served as special services commander from 2000 until his retirement.
Alliano has a long list of professional achievements. In November 1984 he was the department’s officer of the month. He was a master firearms instructor, a police training commission certified instructor and a federal law enforcement training instructor.
Additionally, Alliano served as the town’s deputy emergency management coordinator and was a senior police drivers training instructor at the Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold Township.
"John has received more awards and more certificates than space allows," McCormack said. "No matter what officer or civilian ever needed help, Capt. John Alliano was always there. His total and complete professionalism and work ethic will be missed by myself, my staff and the department."
