Student shows appreciation for his father
By:NiE
My dad is not a typical dad, very far from it. Many dads coach sports teams, others take their kids camping, but my dad doesn’t do those things. He helps me out in many different ways, some I don’t know and never know.
I am an unusual kid. Some of my favorite things are to watch the history channel and listen to classical music. Not too many other kids I know like to do those things. My father knows my interests. He does many things to help my interests grow, even with his busy job. He gets classical music that he thinks (and almost knows) I will like. Since I love and play percussion, he finds concerts where percussionists or the percussion section is featured and takes me to hear them. He teaches me things about math and history that are fun to know, including helping me to learn every single president of the United States in order and according to years of service, and shortcuts to many math problems. He even takes the family on historical vacations to Civil War battlefields and museums (my favorite).
I love baseball. It’s my favorite sport. My favorite team is the New York Mets. One problem: everybody in my family and extended family loves the Yankees. My dad has since he was a kid. Although he loves the Yankees, he took me to a Mets game three years ago. We even took the number seven train to Flushing Meadows. Even though the Mets lost, succumbing to Mark McGwire’s 50th home run, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
My father does so many more things for me that I can’t thank him enough. Although he is not mean, he pushes me to do my best every way he can. If he wasn’t my father, I would be a lot different than I am. He is one of my greatest assets in life and my hero.
