Clean Ocean Action and the Jersey Shore Running Club held their Race for the Water Beach Run 2001 at Seven Presidents Park on June 9. It was a perfect day for an evening race, with temperatures in the low 80s and a refreshing breeze. More than 125 running enthusiasts and supporters showed up to participate in this year’s challenging event.
The race co-directors were Kelley Maroon of Rumson and Phil Hinck of Long Branch.
Among the top overall winners were Mike Tully of Belmar (first place, male), Keira Hetem of Middletown (first place, 15-19), Lisa Ryden of Sea Bright (first place, 30-39), Marilyn Ryder of Long Branch (first place, 60-69) and James Robbins of Eatontown (first place, 70-and-over).
Brookdale Community College’s summer sports camps are now accepting registrations for weekly day camps in baseball, soccer, basketball, softball, tennis, girl’s lacrosse, cheerleading, field hockey, roller/street hockey, running, sports readiness and sports fun. The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium will hold its Fifth Annual Fluke Tournament on Aug. 25, with an alternate date of Aug. 26 in case of inclement weather. All proceeds from the event benefit the NJMSC Education Program. There will be more than $5,000 in prizes, with a first prize of $3,000. There is a 150-boat limit, with no more than six anglers per boat.
