4 men facing charges in
Monmouth-Ocean thefts
FREEHOLD — A Monmouth County grand jury handed up a 47-count indictment on July 10 charging three Ocean County men in connection with numerous burglaries and thefts in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
According to a press release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Sean P. O’Neill, 22, of Jackson is charged with 20 counts of burglary and 17 counts of theft.
O’Neill’s brother, Daniel T. O’Neill, 21, also of Jackson, is charged with 20 counts of burglary and 16 counts of theft.
Thomas Fariello, 20, of Jackson is charged with 10 counts of burglary and 11 counts of theft.
A fourth man, Charles Lacarrubba, 23, of Lake Wallkill is charged with two counts of fourth-degree hindering apprehension.
All four men are also charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and theft.
The indictment also charges Sean O’Neill with one count of leader of organized crime, a second-degree crime which carries a presumption of incarceration and a maximum custodial exposure of 10 years, as well as with one count of third-degree fencing. The burglary and conspiracy charges are all third degree. One theft charge is fourth degree, while the rest are third degree.
Authorities said the burglaries took place between May 2000 and Jan. 16, 2001, at residential construction sites in Colts Neck, Manalapan, Freehold Township, Marlboro and Dover Township.
The investigation, which focused on the O’Neills and Fariello after they were arrested on Jan. 16 following a burglary in Colts Neck, revealed that Sean O’Neill owned a framing business in which Daniel O’Neill and Fariello were employees.
Authorities said they targeted homes that were almost completed in upscale neighborhoods, stealing appliances such as stoves, refrigerators and freezers as well as building materials, some of which were then allegedly sold to a contractor on Long Island. The value of the stolen items is approximately $63,000.
Sean O’Neill is free on $35,000 bail; Daniel O’Neill is free on $27,500; Fariello and Lacarrubba are both free on their own recognizance. All four defendants are scheduled to appear for arraignment before state Superior Court Judge James A. Kennedy, sitting in Freehold, on Aug. 27.
The investigation was conducted by Detective Cpl. Joseph Whitehead of Colts Neck and Detective Samuel Britton of Manalapan, with the assistance of Detective William Hankins of Freehold Township, Detective Edward Clayton of Marlboro, and Detective Randy Pettrick of Dover Township.
