ENGLISHTOWN — Carolyn L. Kafka of Freehold Township started her new job as the borough’s municipal clerk and administrator on Monday.
Kafka replaces Karen Ventura, Englishtown’s previous clerk who resigned to take a similar position in Aberdeen Township. Ventura did not serve in the dual role of clerk and administrator in Englishtown.
This will be the first time Kafka has served in this role. She had been deputy clerk in Freehold Borough and also served as secretary of that town’s planning and zoning boards.
Kafka previously worked on the staff of the Monmouth County Planning Board.
She currently serves as director of the New Jersey Association for Planning and Zoning Administrators, responsible for Monmouth, Middlesex and Mercer counties.
Kafka said she is starting her new job at an annual salary of $33,000, which will increase to $34,000 when she receives her clerk’s license in October.
"I am very excited about starting this new job," Kafka said Monday, her first day in Englishtown. "I’m also a little nervous, but I’m told that is good. I think Englishtown is a beautiful little town. The Borough Council and the staff are very supportive."
Kafka was hired by Freehold Borough as a deputy clerk and secretary of the planning and zoning boards in November 1999.
"I enjoyed working in Freehold Borough," she said. "The administration and the staff were very supportive."
