Freehold Township Recreation Girls Softball League is accepting registrations for the fall 2001 season. The program is for girls in grades 3-9 and is supervised by Donna Lederman and Steve Eisenstein. There will be three divisions offered: minors, intermediate and majors. The season will begin in September.

Games will be played at Liberty Oak Park with the following schedule: minors, Saturday and Wednesday; intermediates, Saturday and Monday; and majors, Saturday and Thursday. Two offspring of the stallion Yankee Glide are the New Jersey Sire Stakes 2-year-old trotting champions. Fluttering Wings and CR Excalibur captured their 2001 Sire Stakes titles at the Meadowlands in their respective $150,000 finals.

Fluttering Wings, driven by Berndt Lindstedt, won by a head over Mars Bar in 1:58.2 to win the filly championships. It was her second win in as many lifetime starts and boosted her earnings to $84,083.

CR Excalibur won by three lengths for trainer/owner/driver Carl Allen in 1:59.3 to take the colts and geldings championship. It was his third win in four lifetime starts and pushed his earnings in excess of $100,000 at $105,800.

Dave Gallagher’s All-American Baseball Camp will be held at Frogbridge Camp, 7 Yellow Meeting House Road, Millstone, later this month. The camp, for players ages 7-12, will be held in two morning and afternoon sessions. The first session is Aug. 20-24 from 9 a.m. to noon, with the second session Aug. 20-24 from 1-4 p.m. Session three is Aug. 27-31 from 9 a.m. to noon, and the fourth session is Aug. 27-31 from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $135 per session.

Gallagher brings 17 years of professional baseball experience with him. During his career he played for the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Cleveland Indians, the Chicago White Sox, the Baltimore Orioles, the California Angels and the Atlanta Braves. Gallagher has served as the hitting instructor/consultant for the Trenton Thunder (Boston Red Sox Double A affiliate) and is currently head coach of the Mercer County Community College baseball team.
