L.B.H.S. students attend
Forensics Institute
Six Long Branch High School forensics students completed the intensive Metropolitan Forensics Institute at Seton Hall University. Seventy-four students from Ohio, New York, Virginia and New Jersey were selected to participate in the program. The students — Dorcas Adekunle, Brian Harris, Colleen Keenan, Caitlin Vamvas, Lauren Wagner and Joseph Wayne — were instructed in the art of interpretation, speech and debate. In addition to class work in original oratory, debate and dramatic interpretation, the students had to rehearse, prepare, practice and perform in a final showcase.
Senior Lauren Wagner was chosen as the speaker to represent the original oratory students in their portion of the final showcase. All six students received scholarships to attend the institute.
In other forensics news, senior Erica Gomez, completed a month-long program at the prestigious Governor’s Program in Arts Education held at The College of New Jersey. Acceptance to the program is by audition, and only 14 students from throughout the state were selected. Erica appeared in two showcases: "Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" and "You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown." She is the fifth Long Branch High School student to be chosen for this nationally recognized program.
