HARRY Potter lingo knowledge is a "must" for those who enjoy reading J.K. Rowlings’ popular fiction.
   • Muggles: "non-magic folk," ’normal’ people, humans
   • Put-outer: mechanism which resembles a lighter, turns street lamps on and off
   • Hogwarts: school of witchcraft and wizardry (in Britain — where Harry attends school)
   • Diagon Alley: a witch/wizard shopping street
   • Knuts: bronze currency; Sickles: silver; Galleons: gold; 29 knuts equals 1 sickle, 17 sickles equals 1 galleon
   • Gringotts: the wizards’ bank (run by goblins)
   • Ministry of Magic: council whose main purpose is to keep their powers hidden from Muggles
   • Leaky Cauldron: a tavern in Diagon Alley
   • Black Forest: forbidden grounds that lie near Hogwarts
   • Quidditch: the wizards’ sport
   • Seeker, Beater, Chaser, Keeper: positions on a Quidditch team
   • Quaffle, Bludger, Golden Snitch: different types of balls used when playing Quidditch
   • Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw: houses to which each wizard or witch belongs at Hogwarts school
   • Platform Nine and Three Quarters: the train platform used to board the Hogwarts Express
   • Sorting ceremony: when the magical hat chooses to which house a student should belong
   • High Table: where the professors sit in the dining hall (at Hogwarts)
   • Transfiguration: changing an object into another object
   • Remembrall: crystal ball that tells a person if they have forgotten something, by turning scarlet
   • Second: someone who takes a person’s place in case they die in a wizard’s duel
   • Nimbus Two Thousand, Comet Two Sixty, Cleansweep Seven: types of broomsticks
   • Devil’s Snare: a type of plant used as a trap
   • Wizard chess: like regular chess, but the figures are alive
   • The Mirror of Erised: a mirror that shows someone his/her greatest desire
   • Sorcerer’s Stone: the stone which can turn anything to gold and can also give eternal life
   • Common Welsh Green, Hebridean Black, Norwegian Ridgeback: types of dragons
   • Invisibility cloak: a cloak which, when worn, turns a person invisible
