The Monroe Wolverines are hosting a NFL and Gatorade sponsored Punt, Pass and Kick competition at the Daniel Ryan Field on No State Home Road in Monroe on Spt. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. Sayreville resident Danny Giovenco, 13, was awarded a first place trophy (14 and under age division) in the Berkeley Township Summer Splash 5K held in South Seaside Park on Aug. 5. Danny finished the race in 23 minutes 47 seconds, which is a personal best for the eighth grade student at Sayreville Middle School.

This fall, the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders will sponsor a fall softball league to begin in August. This league is intended for highly competitive play. Games will be scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays at Warren and Thomas Edison Parks. Two games will be played each night at the two parks with game times set for 6:45 p.m. Please note that all team will be playing at two locations. The entrance fee will be $300, plus a $60 forfeit fee (returnable depending on the number of games forfeited). Umpire fees are the responsibility of participating teams during the regular schedule and paid by the county for the playoff schedule. The first 16 teams to submit the entrance fee, including their roster, will be admitted into this league. Acceptance is on a first-come, first-served basis — no exceptions. Play is expected to start approximately Aug. 21. The number of games played will be at the sole discretion of the county. Rainouts may be played on other than regularly scheduled dates. Registration is being accepted for the Old Bridge ice hockey winter youth instructional program, sponsored by the township Department of Parks, Recreation & Social Services. The 11-week program will be held on Sunday evenings and will teach youngsters ages 5-12 the fundamentals of hockey, including stickhandling, passing and shooting. Participants are required to wear full equipment. The 90-minute sessions are broken into two age groups: 5-8 and 9-13. The 5-8 group runs from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., the older group runs from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The cost is $200 for Old Bridge residents and $250 for non-residents. Registrations will be accepted on Tuesday and Thursday evenings through August from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Old Bridge Sports Arena. Our Lady of Victory Council 2061, Knights of Columbus, Sayreville, is continuing its youth bowling league. Boys and girls ages 8-16 are welcome in this Middlesex County Youth Bowling Association-sanctioned league for approximately 32 weeks on Saturdays at Mid-State Lanes in East Brunswick. The K of C league’s first meeting is at 11 a.m. on Sept. 8, and in following weeks at 11:30 a.m. The cost per week, including bowling shoes, is $7.25. Boys and girls of all levels are welcome.
