Reader in disagreement with Atlanticville editorial on parking

Your recent editorial absolving the developer and the city of any responsibility for the parking problem in the West End beach area is flawed. You indicate since "The Pit" is private property, the developer was free to eliminate the parking lot there with no obligation to the residents or visitors to the ocean.

Why then did the Atlanticville originally report in the spring of 1999 that the developer was to provide 100 spaces in exchange for those that were taken, and was to post bond money for this purpose prior to development? The Atlanticville then reported the city had agreed to drop the bond requirement, but the actual spaces still would have to be provided by June 2000. At the time, in a letter the editor, I addressed the June 2000 deadline and remarked "by which time we will presumably all have forgotten?" Apparently, we (and you) have.
