JAMESBURG Borough officials say the town continues to get complaints from residents about their mail service.
A U.S. Postal Service supervisor in the Monroe post office said Thursday that as far as he knows most of Jamesburg’s misdirected mail stems from personnel changes and the problem has been solved as mail carriers on new routes have adjusted.
"We haven’t have had a phone call with a complaint for a while," supervisor Greg Tutonico said.
The supervisor said carriers can bid on delivery routes. Those with seniority win in the bidding process.
"When carriers change routes, here’s whole new route to learn," he said.
He said that in the last month there have been several changes in personnel "delivering mail in downtown Jamesburg."
"There’s always the chance of human error and when routes change there’s a greater chance," Mr. Tutonico said.
At the Borough Council meeting last week, Councilman Sam Cline said he has received other people’s mail at his gas station on Forsgate Drive, adjacent to Gatzmer Avenue.
Mr. Cline added, "I know a borough businessman who has gone to East Brunswick for his mail service."
Mayor LaMantia said he and other borough officials have met with postal authorities, including Monroe Postmaster Bob Reiss.
"We get complaints every week about misdirected mail. We’ve gone to the post office concerning these complaints and, when we do, we see other Jamesburg people there waiting to complain," the mayor said.
Mr. Tutonico said that when they get complaints at the post office, they act right away to find the problem and solve it.
