South Brunswick trash, recycling pickup Sept. 4
South Brunswick Township has announced there will be no trash or recycling collection on Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day. All materials will be collected on Tuesday, Sept. 4

Senior center offers free lectures, classes
The South Brunswick Senior Center, 540 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick will offer several free lectures in September, beginning with a writing workshop Sept. 5. The workshop will take place each Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. for 10 weeks.
"Dolls Through the Century" is scheduled for Sept. 6 at 12:30 p.m. "Current Events With Sol & Marilyn" led by Sol and Marilyn Mix is scheduled for Sept. 20 at 12:30 p.m. Also on Sept. 20 at 12:30 p.m. will be a massage workshop led by instructor Claire Caldwell.
New classes beginning in September are cantata, a 10-week Tuesday class beginning Sept. 25; and "Combo Dance," a 10-week Friday class beginning Sept. 28.
Applications for the free program "Carrier Link" are now available at the center. The program is offered by the County Office on Aging and local post offices.
Mail carriers will check to see that seniors’ mail is being picked up. If carriers notice letter pile-ups or any other warning signs, they will contact the senior center and it will check on the participants.
The center will notify the post office if a senior is a participant, and install a special symbol to alert the carrier of enrollment.

Six Mile Run offers Monarch Walk Sept. 2
The Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park will offer a "Monarch Walk" Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. at Six Mile Run, 625 Canal Road, Somerset. The walk will feature the observation of monarch butterflies, their migration and habitat.

Local AARP to resume meetings Sept. 14
The South Brunswick Chapter of The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has announced it will resume its regular meeting schedule, beginning with a meeting Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at the South Brunswick Senior Center, Route 522, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.
Featured speaker will be Kathy Higham, manager of the Driver Review Department of the N.J. Division of Motor Vehicles.

‘Mega Job Fair’ date changed to Sept. 26
Pathfinder Consulting Group, North Brunswick, has announced the date of its "Mega Job Fair" scheduled for Sept. 6 has been changed to Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Senior Center to hold art show, ‘Lobsterfest’
The South Brunswick Senior Center will hold an art exhibition Sept. 13 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The exhibition is open to all people over age 55, and refreshments will be served. Work must be registered no later than Sept. 6, and dropped off by 8:30 a.m. Sept. 13.
Grand prize is a numbered framed winter scene from Trade Art and Frame Co., Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.
The center will host a "Lobsterfest" Sept. 21 from 4-7 p.m. Tickets are $16 for lobster or $12 for chicken. Reservations must be made by Sept. 14.
The event will feature lobster, clams, shrimp, corn-on-the-cob, baked potato, desserts and beverages. A chicken dinner is also available.
The center will host a trip to the Broadway play 42nd Street at The Ford Center, N.Y. Nov. 14. The bus will depart the senior center at 4:45 p.m., and return approximately 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $49, and $44 for seniors and children. Each resident may sign up one nonresident guest, but there is an additional fee.
