Squad will have 15 seniors this year

The good news is the Bordentown Regional High School boys’ varsity football team will have 15 seniors on its roster this season. The bad news is many of those seniors do not have a significant amount of varsity experience.
Last season the Scotties made the playoffs for the first time in several years, but the team took a big hit at graduation.
"We graduated 8 guys last year who were first or second team all-stars," said Larry Carthan, the fifth-year head coach of the Scotties.
One thing Bordentown does have is a solid returning quarterback in senior captain Brett Sheehan (also a strong safety) and two talented experienced receivers in DJ Wirth (a senior) and Bobby Burns (a junior). Wirth and Burns are also terrific cornerbacks.
Ted Gola, a sophomore, is a talented quarterback and cornerback as well.
Charles Nagy (a fine offensive and defensive tackle) and Eric Bankhead (a brilliant linebacker and running back) are senior captains too.
Senior Chris Moscatiello is developing into a great center and defensive end.
Bordentown’s remaining senior players are as follows: Eric Arroyo (SE/SS), Maurice Coleman (K/LB), Joe DiGregorio (SE/CB), Eric VanDuyne (OT/DT), Ken Harvey (DT), Dan Havens (RB, LB), Tom Kearns (TE/LB), Joe Greenfield (OT/DT), Alberto Rosario (OB/DE) and Erik Sellnow (OB/LB).
Jonathan Dean (SE/CB), Jeremy Gilbert (OG/DT), Mike Malone (WR/SS), Shane Heisler (TE/LB) and Cody Scott (SE/CB), are the juniors.
Joseph Beatty (OB/DT), Kenneth Blauth (OG/DT), Rashaad Daniel (SE/CB), Marquis Francis (RB/LB), Matt Gabriel (SE/CB), Jovan Gaines (RB/FS), Matthew Hopkins (OG/DE), Kyle Hutchins (SE/CB) and James Mercantini (SE) are all sophomore standouts.
Domenico Maivri, a sophomore running back and linebacker, was doing extremely well in practice but he recently broke his arm and will be out of action for a while.
Rick Little, Mark Drew, Brian Ford, Jay Kipp and Joe Sprague are Coach Carthan’s assistant coaches.
Bordentown will run a 4-3 defense. And on offense it should have a well-balanced attack and a big line.
While Coach Carthan is concerned with his team’s lack of depth, he is looking forward to the upcoming season.
"I’m always optimistic," said Coach Carthan." "The early games will be crucial."
Last season Bordentown was 4-6, but it had a lot of power points. This year, if the kids stay focused, they should play well again.
Bordentown is scheduled to open at Clayton on Saturday.
