NBC football’s extra work could mean playing extra games this season

Team has worked hard during off-season

"I don’t think I’ve ever had a team that worked harder in the off-season," said Charlie Pirrello, the head coach of the Northern Burlington County Regional High School boys’ varsity football team.
The Greyhounds, who are loaded at the skill positions, should have a tremendous season as long as they remain healthy.
Anthony Cali, NBC’s rifle-armed senior quarterback and captain, will lead the team. Cali is on pace to break every passing record in the NBC record book.
Spencer Parks, NBC’s multi-dimensional senior running back, can do it all in the backfield.
And Joe Walder is also a solid senior running back.
Andrew Lozaga and Sam Peskin, both seniors, are the wideouts. Both players are excellent receivers with good hands.
Senior Matt VanSciver is a tight end who can block and catch the ball.
Grey Dyson (a senior left guard), Mike McKeen (a sophomore left tackle), Stanley Bane (a junior center), Lloyd Williams (a senior right tackle) and Chris Garofalo (a sophomore right guard) will makeup NBC’s starting offensive line.
Northern Burlington will run a 4-3 defense this year with Chris Garofalo and David Schumann (a junior) playing as defensive ends. Greg Dyson and Andrew Webster (a junior) are the defensive tackles.
NBC’s middle linebacker will be Matt VanSciver, while junior George Bartholomew and senior Kyle Buchanan will be the outside linebackers.
In the secondary Anthony Cali and Andrew Lozaga will be the starting safeties. Sam Peskin and Kile Ridolfino (a junior) will play the cornerback positions.
Spencer Parks should do most of the Greyhounds’ punting and kicking. He is also a kick and punt returner. Scott Parks (a sophomore) will also return kicks.
Greg Donohoe (a senior linebacker-guard), Dan Pigott (a junior receiver, safety, punter), Anthony Barksdale (freshman fullback-linebacker) and Mike Roman (a senior tight end and safety) should also see plenty of action.
Joe Washington (special teams, running backs and defensive backs) Jon Reising (offensive coordinator and line coach), Rich Dopper (defensive coordinator) and David Adam (receiver and quarterback and cornerback coach) will assist Coach Pirrello, who’ll be coaching in his 24th season. Jule Dolci, Neil Bergeron and Tom Stewart are also NBC football coaches.
If the Greyhounds’ offensive line does a good job of blocking, then NBC should have a very good season. NBC was 4-5 last season, but it lost all four of its Liberty Division games. The Greyhounds need to improve within their own division if they hope to make the playoffs.
If all goes well and the team stays healthy, NBC could have its most successful and sophisticated passing attack to date.
NBC is scheduled to open its season with a game at Monroe Township on Saturday.
