The ninth Citizen Police Academy begins on Sept. 13

The police are looking for a few good men and women to attend its ninth Citizen Police Academy on Sept. 13.
The three-month academy will allow residents to receive training on police procedures and practices.
"It gives you a behind-the-scenes look at policing," said Public Information Officer Jim Ryan. "A lot of myths people see on TV might get dispelled."
The free classes will be held weekly, mostly on Thursday nights, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Experienced officers will teach classes and give in-the-field experience to attendees on such topics as motor vehicle accidents, criminal law, defensive tactics, firearms familiarization and the use and effects of Mace.
"Anytime we can make our jobs more understandable to the general public, it’s a good thing," Officer Ryan said. "We also learn a lot from people and their feedback in different instances. It’s very positive."
Interested parties should call the department’s Community Policing Bureau at (732) 329-4000 ext. 445.
