Fire officials thank public for support

Letter to the editor

On behalf of the volunteer firefighters and ladies auxiliary members of Lawrence Road Fire Co., we would like to thank the residents, business owners and community organizations of Fire District 2 for their generous support during the fire company’s recent fund drive.
The donations made during this year’s drive are already being put to good use in supporting the fire company’s operations by paying utility bills, fuel costs and equipment purchases.
Thus far this year, Lawrence Road firefighters have responded to more than 325 emergency calls — such as structure fires, traffic accidents, hazardous materials spills and general fire alarms.
Recent emergencies to which Lawrence Road firefighters responded were the fire on Aug. 29 that damaged four units at the Meadow Woods apartment complex in Lawrence Township, and the general-alarm blaze involving several, apartments in the Avalon Watch development in West Windsor Township in the early-morning hours of Aug. 27.
Several Lawrence Road volunteers have been injured during the course of the year while in the performance of their duties. In two instances, the firefighters involved were transported to the hospital. Fortunately, in all cases, the injuries ultimately proved to be minor in nature.
Lawrence Road Fire Co. is committed to providing the residents and business owners of Lawrence Township, as well as in all our neighboring municipalities in Mercer County, with the highest quality fire and rescue service.
Again, we wish to thank everyone who has supported us in our mission.
