Local favorite Snapperhead will help kick off this year’s Hopewell Harvest Fair with a free Harvest Moon Concert on Sept. 21, the night before the fair, at the Volunteer’s Bandstand in the Hopewell Park, Columbia Avenue, Hopewell Borough.
The concert will feature not only the Cajun Zydeco Swamp Pop Blues of the band Snapperhead, but also a fireworks show organized by Bill Walker and family.
Food and drink will be provided by Failte Coffeehouse, Stally Wally’s Ice Cream, and Vincenzo’s Pizzeria.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the large entertainment tent at the Hopewell Elementary School grounds. The concert will start at 7 p.m.
Fireworks are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. with more music following the fireworks.
Bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Hopewell Harvest Fair will be held Sept. 22 on the grounds of Hopewell Elementary School. Antique tractors and farm equipment will be a feature of this event. The display area has room for approximately 25 to 30 tractors, and additional room for many other display items. Participants are being sought. Contact Gary or Kit Underwood at 333-0668 or fax 333-0669. Give name and town, a contact telephone number, provide name and type of tractors and year of manufacture and any additional information. Information signs will be provided for each tractor. Offsite storage can be arranged.
Those wishing to exhibit information about their organizations at the Hopewell Harvest Fair should contact Linda Metcalf at 466-0160 (home after 5 p.m.) or 466-0800 (work from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.). Such exhibitors may not sell any items or ask for donations in the exhibitors area, but spaces are free of charge.
The Hopewell Harvest Fair is offering a choice of three-quarter zip pullovers or a hooded sweatshirt this year. There will be no T-shirts. The shirts are on sale at the following locations: Hopewell Video, Sansone Pizza, Hopewell Pharmacy, Failte Coffeehouse, Vincenzo’s, PNC and Hopewell Valley Community Bank.
Wooden Car Derby kits and advanced registrations for the 15th Wooden Car Derby are available at the following locations: Hopewell Pharmacy, the Hopewell Public Library, Vincenzo’s Pizza and Family Restaurant and Karen’s at Brookside.
The car kit is for the Boy Scouts’ Official Pinewood Derby Car. A similar kit is sold at hobby shops. The object of the derby is to build the fastest car. A car can be as simple as a wedge of pine or as complicated as the designer chooses. The cars are 7 inches long, weigh a maximum of 5 ounces and are powered by gravity.
Prizes will be awarded for the fastest, slowest and best-looking cars. There are four racing classes: cars made by children alone, cars made by child/adult teams, cars made by anyone over the age of 12 and an advanced class for "perfectionist" car builders.
The registration fee is $1 per car. The Derby will be held on Sept. 22, rain or shine in the Hopewell Elementary School starting at 9 a.m. when registration and car inspection begins.
At 10 a.m. the best-looking car contest starts and at 10:15 a.m. the race begins. Derby ends and winners are determined after all cars have raced. Those with questions should call Bob Milwicz at 466-3443.
The Where’s Waldo? Game held during previous Hopewell Harvest Fairs will be changed to Find Freddie the Frog and his Friends. The game will essentially remain the same. The entry fee is $1.50.
Characters for the game are still needed. Characters provide their own costumes and are expected to be at the fair between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. when the game is played. Individuals interested in being a character should contact Bob Milwicz at 466-3443. He will provide the characters with additional information.
This year’s Hopewell Harvest Fair bake off, run by Joanne Ennis, will include the following categories: Anything Apple, Pies, Layer Cakes, and for ages 12 and under, Bar Cookies.
Those with questions should call Ms. Ennis at 466-3359. If not available, questions should be directed to Mr. Pfefferle at 466-2900.
Last year’s winners will be listed in the almanac, which will be available at local businesses in September.
