Expected to be on Pennington Borough Council’s agenda Monday night is an adoption vote on a proposed ordinance that would authorize spending $5,000 on radar units for two police cars and $10,000 for computer equipment for the borough’s administrative offices.
Under state law, public comment and questions on the proposed ordinance would have to be taken by council before it could cast an adoption vote.
At its Aug. 6 meeting, the council decided to delay the adoption vote on the proposed ordinance.
If adopted, the ordinance will permit spending $5,000 for radar equipment for a new, recently-purchased police car, and for replacing the radar equipment in another police vehicle, in addition to the computer equipment. The radar is used to determine the speed of motor vehicles. Data obtained by the radar is used as supporting evidence for traffic tickets issued for speeding and other motor vehicle violations.
In response to a question from Councilwoman Liz Muoio during the Aug. 6 council meeting, Pennington police director Bill Meytrott said it "would not be a problem" for the Pennington Police Department to wait another month for funding to buy the radar units.
"We want to get you those units," Ms. Muoio assured him.
