Picture the two following scenarios: After a fabulous show at the new arts center, and short walk over to Peppercorn’s for a bite to eat, cup of coffee in hand, perusing the antique store, which supplies the Middletown Village historical map. Strolling along Kings Highway, map in hand, exploring the history of the area: the newly restored Marlpit Hall; Christ Church, which dates back to 1670; the Taylor-Butler House, an elegant Victorian mansion available to rent for receptions and weddings. The stroller makes a mental note to tell her cousin, who is planning her fall wedding, about this beautiful place. What an enjoyable day spent in this lovely area.
Zooming down a four-lane highway, radio blasting, not seeing our historical homes, not seeing our hidden treasures, because the goal is to get a parking spot at the newly constructed strip mall. The driver has heard you must get there early because the traffic is unbearable later in the day. There is not time to explore because the shopper has to get over to Monmouth Mall anyway, to pick up other things not available here.
There are options for growth in Middletown. Which do you choose?
