Trent meeting story was inaccurate

Letter to the editor

Many people have been talking about the towns forum held Aug. 20 by Councilmen Rick Miller and Mark Holmes. For those of us who could not attend, we rely on The Lawrence Ledger to keep us informed and describe the meetings in their truest form. If an inflammatory incident takes place, we expect them to report accurately. Much to his and his political party’s embarrassment, I have heard it retold by man acquaintances that council candidate Michael Power’s rude outburst disrupted an informative and productive meeting. In fact, his actions were so out of line and unwarranted that the crowd of 60 neighbors cheered when he got up, offered a disingenuous salute to the crowd (that I might add was offense to all veterans and family members of those who serve our country) and stormed out the door. Behavior like that, even in an election year, should not be tolerated. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but no one should be subjected to rude and obnoxious behavior. I understand that instead of getting into a shouting match with Mr. Powers, Councilmen Rick Miller and Mark Holmes, tried to continue to the meeting, which is what the people there wanted to do. They could have entered into a tit-for-tat argument, but they proved themselves to be above that. It is disappointing that I had to learn this from word of mouth around town. I would have preferred to read it in my local newspaper.
