Georgian Court College
appoints vice president

LAKEWOOD — Georgian Court College has announced the appointment of Eduardo S. Paderon to the position of vice president for student and academic affairs.

"We’re delighted to have someone with Dr. Paderon’s vast experience in higher education governance join our team," said Rosemary E. Jeffries, college president. "The visionary leadership he demonstrated as provost and chief academic officer at another Catholic university will translate well to the culture of Georgian Court College."

Also of special interest to the college, she said, was Paderon’s study and teaching in the field of ethics.

Paderon, who assumed his post on Aug. 15, served as provost at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, from 1999 to the present. Before that he held the position of vice president for academic affairs from 1995-99 at the university.

He worked from 1981-95 at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., and held the following positions at Iona: associate dean, Hagan School of Business; assistant dean, graduate business programs; director, M.B.A. program; and professor, Hagan School of Business. In the spring of 1991 he held the Hilton Chair in Business Ethics at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. From 1966-80 he served at Elizabeth Seton College in Yonkers, N.Y., as associate professor of philosophy and chairman of the philosophy department.

For the past five years, Paderon has served as chair of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Advisory Council on Certification. He serves on the Council of Independent Colleges’ programming task force.

Paderon has published articles in Journal of Business and the Journal of Value-Based Management. He co-authored a paper on demographic change in Texas and its impact on higher education for Latinos, which was presented at the 2001 American Association of Higher Education conference.

He has conducted ethics workshops for the Senior Executives Candidates School of the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C., for the past three years.

He received a doctorate in philosophy and a master’s of business administration from Fordham University, New York, and his bachelor of arts from San Carlos Seminary, Manila, the Philippines.

In his position at Georgian Court College, Paderon will participate in all major policy decisions and strategic planning for the college, according to a press release. He will be responsible for undergraduate and graduate education in collaboration with the deans and faculty of the school of arts and sciences, education and business. He also will oversee the library, student development, mission integration and institutional research and planning functions at the college.

He will be responsible for providing leadership in planning, developing, reviewing and overseeing all programs and their budgets; recruiting, supporting, evaluating and retaining faculty in collaboration with the deans; supervising and developing staff; and fostering the maintenance of a productive and stimulating learning environment, according to a press release.

Paderon replaces Rita Carney of Jackson, who served as vice president of student affairs since July 2000.
