Sarah Hoffman (Symmes) Buck, 83

   Sarah Hoffman (Symmes) Buck, 83, died Thursday, Aug. 23.
   Born in Cranbury, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury.
   A prominent figure in the banking community, beginning her career as a teller at the First National Bank of Cranbury, Ms. Buck moved to Virginia where she became vice president of Citizens’ Trust Company in Portsmouth. She was later recruited to open the Women’s Bank of Richmond, serving as president until her retirement. Following retirement, she returned to New Jersey and resided at Rossmoor.
   Ms. Buck had served as president of the National Association of Bank Women and was appointed a member of the national Small Business Association Committee during the Carter presidential administration.
   Her parents, Charles Van Dyke Symmes and Ethel Cole Symmes, are deceased.
   Surviving are daughters Christine Haddon Buck Kirkland of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Susan Van Dyke Buck Waters of Falls Church, Va.; son Thomas Charles Buck of Huddleston, Va.; sister Carolyn Van Dyke Symmes Brace of Morristown; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
   A memorial service will be held in Huddleston, Va., with burial in Brainerd Cemetery.
