NEW HOPE, Pa. Francis M. Curley, 81, died Friday at Abington Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong New Hope resident, he was an Army veteran of World War II and received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from Rutgers University. He also attended Temple University in Philadelphia.
Mr. Curley taught history and social studies at New Hope-Solebury High School from 1957 to 1980 and volunteered at the Center for Learning and Retirement at Delaware Valley Community College, Doylestown.
He was a board member and docent of New Hope Historical Society, a board member of New Hope Public Library and member of the Bucks County and Lambertville (N.J.) Historical societies, New Hope Borough Council and St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church.
Son of the late Frank and Kathryn Taggart Curley and father of the late Michael, he is survived by his wife, Ruth McDonnell Curley; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas and Jeanie Curley of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Peter of New Hope; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Robert Icelow of New Hope; and two grandsons, Brian of Baltimore and Kevin of Scottsdale.
Funeral was Tuesday from Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St., Lambertville.
Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church, New Hope. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
