Acting Governor Donald DiFrancesco presents

ADL Public Service Award to fomer mayor
County Freeholder and former Hillsborough mayor Ken Scherer was honored last Wednesday with the 2001 Anti-Defamation League Public Service Award.
Mr. Scherer was presented with the award by Acting Governor Donald DiFrancesco at the Central New Jersey ADL’s annual awards dinner held in Somerset County.
"It gives me great pleasure to present the 2001 ADL Public Service Award. This award is given to individuals who believe that it is a duty and an honor to serve the community and in that area Freeholder Ken Scherer is at the top of the list," Mr. DiFrancesco said.
"Ken had indeed completely dedicated his public career to this county and to all those who reside here," he added, citing Mr. Scherer’s past service as a member of Hillsborough’s Zoning Board of Adjustment and mayor and deputy mayor of Hillsborough.
"Ken is always there to help and although he runs a major business he also finds time to serve on numerous boards and organizations," he continued, citing the Somerville Elks, Hillsborough Rotary, Hillsborough Education Foundation and the Somerset Alliance for the Future.
"Ken has also given his best to the ADL, through his work in persuading the Freeholders in Somerset to fund the league’s video to combat bias, which will circulate throughout the county."
Somerset County recently unveiled a video Mr. Scherer narrated to help educate residents about anti-semitism, made in conjunction with Hillsborough resident Caz Bielen.
